What to bring to the test: 

  • Completed application and waiver: available listed above on this page
  • Swimsuit (recommended "Speedo" style or jammer)
  • Goggles
  • Running shoes
  • Shorts/T-shirt/sweats
  • Towel
  • Snack / Lunch / Water bottle
  • Mask

What to expect: 
  • 500 meter swim (in less than 10 minutes)
  • 1 mile run
  • 75 meter sprint, pick up dummy, return to start
  • Pushups till failure
  • Pullups till failure
  • Interview (online follow-up)

Lifeguarding

Seven Presidents Oceanfront Park is one of the Monmouth County Park System's flagship parks. We hire rookie and experienced lifeguards every year. Our lifeguard agency offers a competitive atmosphere of motivated young people.

A typical day's schedule is as follows:

8:45am - Report to morning meeting for check-in and orders of the day meeting
9-9:45am - Morning training (physical and skills)
9:45-10am - Set up beaches 10am-5pm - Water watching, training and breaks.
5-5:15pm - Break down beaches, afternoon meeting, regular shift dismissal.
5-7pm - Late shift patrol and response
7-7:15pm - Late shift equipment breakdown and dismissal meeting.

Certifications

Applicants do not need any previous training or experience. We offer on the job training for all of the following required and optional certifications:
  • United States Lifesaving Association open water rescue
  • CPR
  • Advanced First Aid
  • AED
  • Blood Borne Pathogen
  • Epi-pen
  • Asthma Inhaler
  • Supplementary Oxygen Administration
  • Small watercraft safety

Meet at the flagpole at Seven Presidents Oceanfront Park

Spots are filled on a rolling basis so try to make the first tryout date if you can to ensure your best opportunity.


Minimum Age Requirement: 16

Time and Location:

Swim Portion - (Minimum Requirement 500m in 10 minutes)

The test:

(all candidates are ranked and rated based on performance in our test)

500 Meter swim in a pool - maximum allowed time: 10 minutes.

Pullups - max until failure for place

Pushups - max until failure for place

Sprint, pick up dummy, sprint back - for time and place

1 mile beach run, hard and soft sand - for time and place

Interview - assess availability and to discuss the rigors and schedule of the job
